When this site first went online in June 2000 I used to monitor the availability of Albert Ayler CDs in a number of internet stores, providing a monthly update to give a rough guide to what was easy to get hold of through the normal channels. However, things change. Obviously everything is now available to download from here and there, but that was never the point of this page. What’s available in the shops is the best indication of Ayler’s current popularity (but, things change, not only are there now no shops, a lot of the original ‘internet stores’ have also disappeared). Back in 2000, CDs were the standard and vinyl reissues and legitimate downloads were a novelty. In February 2008 I dropped the monthly updates and replaced them with this basic list, which ignores ebay and amazon marketplace and the specialist dealers, but which should give a general idea of what is currently in ‘the catalogue’.
